
Allele: An allele is one of a number of DNA codings which may occupy a particular locus on a chromosome. 2 alleles make up a genotype.
Locus: (location) is a fixed position on a chromosome. Each Locus will only accept 2 alleles, although several types may fit.
Heterozygous Gene Pair: (example: Aa) occurs when a particular locus has 2 different alleles present
Homozygous Gene Pair: (example AA or aa) having 2 of the same alleles at a particular locus on homologous chromosomes
Homozygous Dominant: (example: AA) occurs when a particular locus has two copies of the dominant allele
Homozygous Recessive: (example: aa) occurs when a particular locus has two copies of the recessive allele
Phenotype: (example: snow motley) detectable characteristics - color / pattern markings
Genotype: the specific genetic makeup of inheritable traits for an individual.
